2017 Sporting Dinner
Nine years ago a small group of anglers who enjoyed match fishing arranged a couple of light hearted fishing matches which became regular events. Within the group some of the anglers had their own companies and between us we felt we had some good business contacts in the local area and decided that we could run the fishing matches as charity events. In 2007 Cambridge Charity Fundraisers was formed and headed by myself. We decided that we would support one charity each year. We are not a registered charity but work as a fundraiser/partner with registered charities. I always approach the chosen charity to seek their written approval prior to fundraising. We run an annual fishing series of six matches and all money raised along with sponsorship is donated to our chosen charity.
Along with the fishing matches we have social events, bucket collections and sporting dinners with a guest speaker, raffle and auction. In 2008, our first chosen charity was East Anglia’s Children's Hospice (EACH) and we managed to raise £3170.00. 2009 saw us raise money for Hinchingbrooke Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), a charity very close to my heart as they played a massive part in saving the life of my daughter Ruby in 2008. For SCBU we raised £2022.00. In 2010, Cancer Research UK was our chosen charity and £5552.93 was raised for much needed research into this terrible disease which affects so many of us and our family and friends. Our chosen charity for 2011 & 2012 was Magpas and we raised £6017.00 which we know will help save lives. Our chosen charities this year are Cancer Research UK and e.a.c.h East Anglia’s Children's Hospice at Milton, Cambridge. This is the first time we have raised funds for two charities in the same year, and the funds raised will be divided 50% between both charities and we hope this will be another successful year. None of this would be possible without the help and support from the anglers and the local companies who have kindly donated prizes, money and sponsorship. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the companies, fishery owners, and members of the public for their kind support and for the generous donations during the past 9 years.
